Phoenix replaced its old quarterly bulk-trash zones with an appointment system. Each household gets up to four appointments per calendar year, scheduled at least three business days ahead, with a 10-cubic-yard cap per pickup and a 5:30 a.m. set-out deadline. The city won't take construction and demolition material — bricks, concrete, dirt, rock, roofing — or electronics in a bulk pile, and refrigerant appliances need separate handling. Four appointments sounds like plenty until you're mid-remodel with a pile of drywall the city won't touch. That's us.
